100 Moments of Discovering LIFE

How time flies. Year 2013 is about to end in a few days. As with previous years, we will look back once again on how we've done in the year that will soon exit, and will base our new year's resolutions on what we attempted but failed to achieve, or we simply would like to aim for some paradigm shifts.

Psychologies, one of my favourite magazines, did a round-up of 100 quotes from psychologists, psychiatrists, writers, artists, celebrities, and other inspirational figures who have contributed to the magazine thoughout its eight years of publication.

Dubbed '100 MOMENTS IN TIME', the feature is a celebration of the magazine's 100th issue. Let me share with you the pages from one of my preferred magazines that may perhaps inspire your thoughts going forward to 2014, with my favourites highlighted.

On the above page: "Regret can be a signal that there is a chance to fix things. It lingers wherever there are still opportunities." (Sarah Maber, journalist)

"Imagine placing your expectations of yourself on someone else. Do they still seem reasonable?" (Gordon Flett, psychologist)

"If you feel tempted to share a secret, resist it for 24 hours, and you'll find the impulse will pass. And the good feeling that you get from holding back witll outweigh the short-lived rush of telling." (Linda Blair, psychologist)

"Some satisfactions in life are incompatible with safety; to reach them, you must enter the unknown." (Oliver Burkeman, author)

"The most positive thing about humans is our impulse to give love. We can't help it." (Sigourney Weaver, actress)

Quite a long list, but I'll give you plenty of time to go through it.

Which quote resonated to you?

What is the one thing you'd like to work on and achieve in 2014?

  1. great post!

  2. Heyyy

How funny that you have done this post because for the past month I have been considering becoming a psychologist, but I just don't know if I have the stamina to do a PhD now, but I've been doing some investigating - maybe this post is an omen?

Anyway back to your question: I use something similar to 32 with my clients when they are trying to lose weight. Number 35 is a good one - I have so many ideas for things that I end up doing hardly any of them. I love number 50, I'm constantly telling myself I'm too old to do things. I guess I've got to agree with number 65 too.

2014, I'm really not sure, I'm not planning to set any goals this year; I just want to be emotionally content and stop worrying about things.

Have a lovely weekend hun xx

    1. Funny coz I wanted to be a psychologist or psychiatrist had I proceeded to medical school (I did nearly 4 years of pre-med then dropped out). I think you should go for it if you have the time, money, and of course, stamina. Learning about how the mind works is such an amazing area of study.

Thank you for sharing! Pick up a copy of Psychologies. Maybe it can help you prep up for the course!

      Happy boxing day xxx

  3. I just read all of the points. Very good ideas; I agree with most of them :)

    1. Thanks Anouka! I think it's a great alternative read when fashion and makeup can be too all-consuming. Happy holidays!

  4. I was nodding at almost every quote but I particularly loved the one about conflicts often being a matter of pride. Excellent post, I really enjoyed browsing through this :)

    Happy holidays! :)

    1. Pride is indeed a source of lots of evil. Thanks for sharing!

      Happy holidays Hayfa!

  5. Great advice and tips here but it's number 11 which I find so important - making the most of every minute rather than focusing too much on 'spare time.' Wishing you a wonderful 2014!

    1. You're right miss b, in this day and age, it's very difficult to find spare time especially if you have a full-time job plus other things going on outside work. So the key, is to make your own spare time by making every minute count.

Happy boxing day and happy holidays!

  6. ...we tried to figure out this strange and beautiful thing called life. Maybe that's the best quote, it definitely is the most true, you try all your life to get it and then you realize you can't and that that's not even the point and then you die.:) Ok, but I can't be that morbid, it's the holidays!:D I love the 31st. And 58th too, that's my favorite, that's my motto - I knew it was up to me to rescue myself. Damn straight.

So my dear, I hope the holiday cheer will continue far into the new year! I wish you plenty of good food, good conversations, good company, good wine and lots of inspiration all round!

P.S.: I always type a comment and the re-read it and only after re-reading it, I noticed that the first sentence of the second paragraph rhymed, that's a cool coincidence.:D

    1. Life's such a bog mystery to completely and fully figure out. So let's just let it run its own course. Can't interfere with it. And don't mess with it.

Yes, plenty of food and booze, and in fact I'm a little bit pissed typing this. I think I'm more eloquent under the influence of spirits. Haha.

The rhyme is your creative mind peeking out. It can't help itself :)

Happy holidays Peet, and thank you for checking my feeds in other social platforms x

    2. :D I get more 'inspired' when I'm dr... Tipsy too.:D You're 100 % right, we should just let everything run its own course, that would be best for everything and everybody... I drink to that!:) Cheers, dear.;)

  7. Great post full of interesting tips!!!Tnx for sharing darling!!!
    Happy holidays!!!!
